OUR HISTORY

In the year 1916 a group of people met in the town of Aynor, SC at the Coastline Railroad Depot. The purpose of the meeting was to organize a church. The following persons met to organize the church: Sam Dunmore, Arthur Dewitt, Sarah McQueen, Francis Best, Bessie Burroughs and Lula Dunmore. Under the leadership of Ben Bragdon plans were made by this group to build a church. They named the church St. Elizabeth Missionary Baptist. The church is located East of Highway 501, South of the town of Aynor. The Rev. Joe Gore was called as the second pastor. Under his able leadership the people in the Aynor Community began the building of the church. The church was completed in 1920. For ten years the church was strengthened and the membership increased until the church had to enlarge, Several ministers were instrumental in the building program. They were: Rev. J.H. Livingston, Rev. W.A. Johnson, Rev. A.B. Nichols and Rev. S.A. Green. In 1977 the church came under the leadership of George P. Windley, In 1985 the church came under the leadership of Rev. Henry B. Best. In 1996 the church came under the leadership of Rev. Wallace Evans. Under his leadership the church has grown numerically and spiritually. Rev. Evans is a visionary and has blazed his own path for the church. The church has full time worship service along with afternoon services on the 4th Sunday with training, A Youth Choir along with a Male Choir was started. Under his leadership we have an Outreach Ministry, Food Program, New Member's Training, Constitution, 501C, Van Ministry, Budget Committee was established and in operation. He was influential in getting the Levister School , which is now the Levister Community Development Center. Youth Ministry, Christian Education, Nursing Home, Prison Ministry and a tutorial program are in operation. We moved from having our annual Community Thanksgiving to feeding the inmates at J Reuben Long Detention Center and Turbeville Corrections, We fed over 1200 inmates for Thanksgiving and 80 inmates locally for Christmas along with several other churches. This project is done annually. We provide service and food for homeless shelters and Nursing Homes monthly. He was influential in starting the Girl Scouts for the Aynor Community. We are in the process of providing children with computers in each home. We already have a girl scout in place and working on our boy scouts.  In 1999 through a vision of Pastor Evans in wanting the church to fellowship; he started having an annual Church banquet for the membership. This is held the 1st Saturday in May. We have been blessed to have some dynamic speakers.  Under his leadership he has licensed four ministers and ordained two ministers.  Pastor Evans believes strongly that a church that is educated and train is a powerful church. Our Wednesday night Bible class has grown tremendously.  We have five classes going on each Wednesday. We now have a Tuesday morning Bible class that is rapidly growing. Since 2001 we have been attending the State Congress of Christian Education in July, The four winter sessions offered by the Congress. Leadership training that is held by the Kingston Lake Baptist Association, and we attend conferences, workshops and retreats. We had our first Leadership training last year. Pastor Evans has involved other churches in participating in the State Congress events.
